Many dogs are being rescued from illegal dog fighting rings every year. These dogs are viewed to be aggressive and are often misjudged by others not to be suitable to place with families. However, these dogs are just as kind and loving as any other pooch and only had the misfortune of getting owners who made them the way they are. Luckily, there are organizations such as Throw Away Dogs Project who believe in these doggies and help them find their new places in life.
Rescue dog gets training
The Throw Away Dogs Project is a nonprofit organization that is based in Philidelphia. They rescue dogs from unique situations and train them to be K9 officers. One of the dogs that they have trained is a Pit Bull named Hansel. He was rescued in Ontario, Canada, from a dogfighting ring when he was a puppy. Ever since then, he has been training with the organization to become fit for police duties.
Recently, this pooch underwent training at a K9 academy with his new handler, Tyler Van Leer, to be an arson detection dog. This 16-week program, Hansel was trained to detect 14 different flammable odors such as diesel and gasoline before he could graduate.
First of his breed
Hansel has graduated from training and has now become the first-ever Pit Bull to become a K9 arson detection officer in the country. This pooch has paved the way for other dogs of his kind to become more than what they are stereotyped to be.
Pit Bulls are very loving and sweet dogs, unlike what most people think about them. They are also highly trainable and can be relied upon to become K9 officers like Hansel. This doggie is a prime example of what a wonderful life these rescue dogs can have if you give them a chance.
