Mehana knows in her heart that her four-year-old pitbull named Simba wouldn’t hurt a fly. Her dog has always been gentle towards people, so she feels bad when she hears some of her neighbors say bad things about the pup.
The young lady believes that it all stems from the bad rep pit bulls have been getting from the media. “Some of them haven’t even met Simba, but they always avoid us when they see us enter our apartment,” Mehana mentioned.
An elderly woman, in particular, has always given them the cold shoulder. Despite Simba’s numerous attempts to greet her, she would look at him with fear and would utter mean things like “that looks like a bad dog!”
The pup, being the good boy that he is, still wanted to be friends with the elderly woman. Simba kept his gentle demeanor and waited for the day that he will get along with his neighbor.
Finally, an opportunity came as Simba and Mehana were climbing up the stairs to their apartment room. The pup suddenly acted weird as they got near to the elderly woman’s apartment door.
“Simba suddenly stopped at her door. Then he started barking. I tried pulling him, but he wouldn’t budge,” Mehana recalled.
“When I tried to lean over to pick Simba up, I heard a whisper coming from inside the elderly woman’s apartment. I tried to lean over, and that’s when I heard a voice crying for help,” the lady added.
Mehana immediately opened the door and saw her elderly neighbor lying on the floor. It turned out that the lady had collapsed and had broken her hip bone. She couldn’t move and have been waiting for help for two days already.
If not for the pup, nobody would have known their neighbor’s situation. When the elderly woman learned that it was Simba who saved her, she thanked him wholeheartedly.
“She said a sweet thank you to us. I thought she was talking to me, but then she looked at Simba and said, ‘Thank you. You’re a good dog,'” Mehana narrated.
Everyone in their apartment heard about Simba’s heroic act, and their demeanor towards him started to change. “They love him! And I know Simba is enjoying the attention he’s getting,” Mehana said.
