Pero is one of fifteen Sheepdogs that live on a farm in Aberystwyth, Wales. He was raised as a farm dog and is trained to help farmers by working on the farm. His owner Alan James decided to give Pero to another farmer in Cockermouth, Cumbria, 240 miles away from his former home. There the Sheepdog would do the same job.
Everything was okay in the first two weeks of his stay there. Then he started becoming homesick. Pero decided that he was not happy with his new arrangement and made the bold choice of going home. Something that nobody expected.
Homeward bound
When Alan received the news that Pero went missing, he did not have a shred of idea that the dog was homeward bound. His new owners said that they looked for him everywhere, but they could not find the Sheepdog. By that time, Pero was already on his way home. They tried everything to locate the dog, and for eleven days, no one had an inkling where he was or what happened to him.
By the twelfth day that the dog was missing, Alan and his family were shocked yet relieved to see that Pero was by their doorstep. No one knows how he found his way home, but the dog looked like it was healthy and well-fed. The gentle and lovable dog must have gone up to humans, and they gave him something to eat and drink.
They didn’t expect the dog to find its way home as he has never done this before. Pero was kept mostly at the farm, so it was somewhat impossible for him to be familiarized with the directions. But there he was. And when they found him, the dog looked so happy and excited to be home.
Alan and his family decided that this was a sign. Pero was meant to stay with them. So they decided to keep him. Alan’s wife said that Pero is very active and happy since he came back home.
