Bryant Fritz loves to fish, and while he was on his recent fishing trip, he was not expecting that his biggest catch was going to be a pooch locked in a crate.
Bryant first saw the troubled canine in Kaufman Lake in Champaign, Illinois. He noticed the crate floating in the freezing waters, and being a dog-lover, he did not waste much time and dived into the lake to save the pooch.
Once Bryant successfully brought the dog to the shore, he realized that the animal was just a little puppy. The poor pup had missing and also suffered from injuries.
Bryant called a Veterinary Teaching Hospital and informed them about the pup who was in desperate need of treatment for wounds, hypothermia, and possibly much more. While Bryant waited for the hospital staff to arrive, he kept the pup covered with a blanket to keep her warm.
Bryant wanted to adopt the dog once she gets recovered. Bryant and his Girlfriend, Krystal, decided to name the dog Dory after the Disney character in Finding Nemo voiced by Ellen DeGeneres.
The story was posted online, and it quickly went viral. DeGeneres also found out about it and invited the couple on her show. Bryant and Krystal not only shared the pooch’s adoption story on the show, but Bryant also proposed Krystal there, and Krystal said yes.
DeGeneres gave the couple $25000, sponsored by Furbo. The couple also got an engagement gift at the show.
Bryant is of the view that everyone should consider adoption. There are so many adorable animals who are in need of a home, and they have the potential to change their owner’s life.
Bryant added that we should always remain positive, and even if life gets tough, we should keep on swimming just like Dory.
Dory is now living happily with her new owners.
