Connor Guillet is a six-year-old nonverbal boy. Despite his special needs, he has learned to communicate with sign language. Even though he has had a genetic disorder since birth, his mother, Brandi, still wholeheartedly adopted him.
Now that Connor is growing up, he did not have a lot of human friends. That’s when she really wanted him to have a friend that he could play with.
Eager to find her son a companion, she attended an adoption event for Boxer dogs. After searching for a good candidate, she finally met a deaf three-year-old Boxer named Ellie who understood sign language. She knew the pooch was a perfect fit and immediately adopted her.
When Connor and Ellie first met, they got along instantly. And would you believe that they are now inseparable? When they were first introduced to each other, she allowed Connor to grab her face, hug her, and kiss her too. It was as if they have known each other forever.
Brandi shares that Ellie is such a great dog for Connor since the two of them enjoy cuddling on the couch for a nap, and enjoy playing together. The pair also love to play tug-of-war, chase on the playground and play on the trampoline together. Though Ellie is deaf, she is skillful enough to respond to Connor’s simple sign language.
Brandi shares that the best thing about the adoption is that the pair can understand each other since both of them have similar special needs.
As of this writing, Connor is developmentally and psychologically delayed and is still receiving occupational therapy. Despite the trials, Brandi is so happy to have Ellie as a new addition to the family and that her son finally has someone to communicate with.
