Paige Knudtson adopted Brutus, a two-year-old boxer from a local rescue, shortly after she found out that she was pregnant with Finn. Because she grew up with boxers, Paige knew that they are a gentle breed. However, she never expected that the dog would take such a huge part in her baby’s life.
On her 20th week of pregnancy, Paige learned from an anatomy scan that her son had a severe heart defect. So, immediately after Finn was born, he underwent multiple procedures until he was allowed to have open-heart surgery. Because of that, it took seven weeks and a few complications before the little boy was able to go home.

When the family finally brought Finn home, they saw the instant connection that he had with their dog. Paige said that Brutus seemed to know that his baby brother needed some extra close monitoring. Brutus stayed by Finn’s side ever since.
Finn and Brutus adore each other and love spending every minute of their day together. According to Paige, wherever Finn is, Brutus would surely follow and curl up next to him. The pup also knows when his baby brother is sick. He would stay beside Finn and lay his head on the little boy’s chest.

If they get separated even for a moment, Brutus will start scratching the door to Finn’s room or pacing outside until someone lets him in. Before, Brutus would sleep on the rug in front of Finn’s crib as if he was protecting his little buddy. However, now that Finn is sleeping on his “big boy bed,” Brutus decided to sleep on it every night, too.
Recently, Paige moved Brutus’s bed into Finn’s room. Since then, Finn would often choose to snuggle with the pup on his dog bed than stay on his own. Paige captured the duo’s sweet nighttime routine using a nanny cam, and they looked super adorable.
Now, the family has gotten used to waking up, seeing Finn and Brutus snuggling together either on the little boy’s bed or on the floor. Paige is just so happy that her son found a best friend and protector in their dog. She couldn’t wait to watch the duo grow up together.
