Dogs are brilliant creatures. And this is evident from the hundreds of dog stories that went viral or the stories of dogs helping humans or doing incredible things. We’ve even seen reports of dogs being honored in their respective police district for being heroes – sometimes for just being adorable. Now, how about this dog’s story that’s been helping school children safely cross the streets?
The dog’s name is Kupata, and he lives in Batumi, Georgia. He’s now becoming a local celebrity for working tirelessly and helping small kids to cross the street. You can see kids waiting on the side of the road for their turn to cross. Then, a dog showed up and bravely faced oncoming traffic, stoping the cars so the kids can safely get across the street.
You’d think it’s just coincidence, but it’s not. It turns out the dog is on crossing guard duty every day. He’s like the full-time officer handling the traffic. According to locals, Kupata is very useful at his job. He gets angry and barks at cars that won’t stop in time. Sometimes, the dog will wait for an hour to make sure that the kids are safe. And he’s been doing this for two years now.
No one knows why this brave and adorable dog decided to handle the daily traffic. Kupata is a stray dog, but people around the area take care of him. There’s a woman who feeds him, a little girl who gives him kisses and cuddles, and Beka (the person who recorded Kupata while working). According to them, the pup loves kids, and it’s normal to see him in the park and playing with the kids.
Someone is running an Instagram account for Kupata to chronicle his daily adventures. One of the posts in the account shows Kupata being honored by Adjara Tourism Department. They presented him with a doghouse that was embellished with a star depicting his name. There’s also a massive mural of Kupata on one of the buildings in downtown Batumi. He’s that popular!
