Valerie Sanks is a volunteer at Rocky Point who loves treating shelter dogs. She devoted her life to loving homeless dogs. This time, she organized a special sleepover for a shelter dog with hopes of capturing someone or a family’s heart and give her a shelter she can call home.
Sox is an 8-year-old, senior female dog. She was with a family before and a regular visitor to the shelter as she always wanders out of their home and eventually be brought to the shelter. Her human companions will always pick her up until the last time. Sox also patiently waited for her owners, hoping that they will come and pick her up as usual.
Gabrielle Stroup of the North Fork Animal Welfare League said that Sox had her dark days and eventually ended in the shelter. She also said that the senior female dog was such a sweetie. She also loves car rides and to relax on the sofa. Stroup added that Sox is a loyal dog and perfect in a single-pet home.
Sanks also said that this was not the first time that they arranged a special sleepover for Sox. The sweet senior dog had her first on Saint Patrick’s Day last year. She also added that she’s making special sleepovers to give homeless dogs in need of a shelter a ray of hope.
Sanks said that the sleepover was arranged at La Quinta Inn by MacArthur Airport. The event was sponsored by Kathy Smock to remember the memories of the very first shelter dog that she took for a sleepover, Tay Tay.
Valerie decorated the room with unicorns, matched with a unicorn blanket on the couch. What Sox loved the most was the love shown to her that night. They had 20 visitors, and the beautiful senior dog gave the love back. The party was also filled with unicorn toys, treats, and Sox’s favorite, double cheeseburger.
Sank promises to love homeless dogs with all that they have, though they’re not able to adopt at this moment. She also hopes that more kind-hearted people can volunteer at their town shelters.
