A local pit bull in Stockton, California, is being hailed a hero as she saved both the lives of her owner and her baby.
It was a Sunday night when Latana Chai was sound asleep on her bed. It was like any other night.
However, moments later, Chai was woken up by a frantic sound. It was her 8-month-old pit bull, Sasha, frantically banging on the back door.
Chai did not know what was wrong. According to her, Sasha has never done anything like that before, so she got up and checked to see what was wrong.
As soon as Chai got to the door, Sasha runs inside the house and starts barking.
It was then when she realized her neighbor’s house was on fire. At the time, her cousin, who was her neighbor, was not at home.
Chai could see the smoke and flames coming out of her cousin’s house.
She knew she had to act fast as the fire headed towards her unit.
Smart as she was, Sasha rushed towards Chai’s 7-month-old daughter, Masailah, who was still asleep.
As Chai followed Sasha to her room, she could see Sasha grab Masailah by the diaper as she tried to drag her from the bed.
Sasha knew that she had to get the baby out of the house before the fire spread!
Following Sasha’s lead, Chai quickly picked her baby up and rushed outside the house. She then quickly called 911 for help.
Soon, firefighters were on the scene.
Though the damage was extensive, the residents were thankful that all of them managed to escape in time, thanks to Sasha.
Chai recalled that it was the first time she’d left Sasha outside the house. And she was thankful to Sasha for having saved them.
For the residents of the building that fateful night, Sasha will always be a hero for alerting them of the fire.
